A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF STATE LEGISLATION TO MODERNIZE THE FUNDING STRUCTURE FOR LOCAL COMMUNITY PUBLIC, EDUCATION AND GOVERNMENT PROGRAMMING

Luverne's local Public Education and Government access programming, known as LuvTV, is funded through franchise fees negotiated in the cable franchise agreements with local cable providers, which are currently limited to only the revenues on cable TV subscriptions and not internet users. With the current trend of online streaming, LuvTV is projecting an ongoing reduction in franchise and PEG fees. This proposed resolution shows support to pass legislation to modernize the funding structure for local community PEG programming providing an increase in financial support to be able to continue offering this service to our residents.
